I now post on ...
billstearman.com
This site remains and mostly documents my life as a farmer. I now identify as a quilt maker.
... ... Here, in my own quiet little space on the web ... I'll share my sheepish thoughts ... and some of my quilts ... with the world ... or at least with anyone who is interested ... :-)
On the hill ... a wonderful sight! An older ewe (she had no teeth) and one of Carole's legs ... ;-) The 'group' in desperate need of shearing ... A mid side sample of Iris' fleece ...
beautiful fleece sample Bill! Looks pretty perfect to me! Even with the tip!
I simply think these photos are just priceless and something that the NASSA membership should be looking at. I think you should send them in for publication!
Posting these pictures has motivated me to make a vist to see Carole. I haven't seen her new farm since she moved the flock to it. I'd love to see her flock as I got to make suggestions as to what I'd keep if I were her ... :-).
Much has changed in both of our lives. Time for a visit. AND time for me to once again try to get her to publish the slides from the first five years (the quarantine years)in a book!
Don't miss the 2011 AGM at the Doane's farm. It is, without a doubt, the most spectacular place I have ever been to ... spectacular ... on the top of a mountain!
Since you started posting these photos Bill I have been thinking about the real loss the Shetlands have experienced between the original Dailley imports and the Midwest now.
Although many of the ewes in your photos clearly need improving, the basic Standards as noted in the SSS are still there, years after the Colonial brought in their grandparents. Imagine what we might have today if NASSA had realized the need to clearly reinforce -through adequate notation- the Standards when they initially organized?
