Yellowknife - Views From the Deck

I had a GREAT time in Yellowknife. The weather was glorious, with highs of 19 to 22 each day and NO humidity. I took HUNDREDS of pictures but won't post them all. And I will try to 'group' them. The first group are pictures taken from Kate and Tim's deck. They have an awesome apartment and a GREAT location in the heart of 'Old Town'.

Here goes with shots taken from the deck on the first day ...

This plane, and three more just like it arrived ... and then left on Saturday/Sunday with 'charters'. I have no idea where they took people, but the folks who came back were all smiling ... :-)
Every evening around 7 pm, planes came in to land on the lake or took off on some sort of an adventure. They are pretty noisy, but awesome to see as they take off and 'land'.
By the end of my stay, the colour was starting on the hills around the lake. Fall is setting in.

The sunsets were magnificent ... and lasted for hours. Late afternoon is the warmest time of day ... and there were no bugs this time of year ... so it was great to sit out, sip wine, and enjoy the sunsets.

Next up will be pictures of Kate and Time with their kids ... but you'll have to wait ... :-)

Life IS good!

Willow Garden Xavier

I came home from Yellowknife and was greeted by this little guy. He is a beautiful dun bull calf born early Monday morning, August 30th. Pete just found him dried off and nursing when he went out to do chores in the morning.
He has moved out with the heifers for now and will move out with the cows ... and the bull ... in a few weeks.
I like him a lot, and considering his genetics and his colour, he will be left intact for evaluation as he grows.
His dam is Aldebaran Hollis, the dun cow that I fell in love with ... and bought ... when I was shopping for a bull.
His sire is Dreamland Samson. This guy has almost all of the qualities that I look for in a bull.
What a welcome home!! ... Life is good!

Barter

If you follow my blog, you know that I live in a fairly small space ... which I love ... and that I share it with my friend Peter, and I am pretty fond of him as well ... ;-).

Well ... recently I met a young woman named Meagan, who has Shetland sheep and wants more. But Meagan has the COOLEST parents ... Steve and Sylvie ... who approached me with an idea for a barter. I LOVE barter!

Today, Meagan left here with four AWESOME ewes!
This is part one of the barter ... hanging over my dining room table. Is it not beautiful!
Here it is without the flash ... and with the camera held in my shaky hands.

There is also a beautiful window panel that won't get hung until I am home from Kellowknife ... and a smaller shade that will go on a bedside/night light lamp.

I am so happy with this barter ... and I am sure that my ewes that were sold in exchange are as well.

Off to begin the trip to Yellowknife in 21 hours ... woo hoo!!
